[ENCINITAS, 12/13/2009] Our younger fencers are continuing their great season in the Socal Youth Challenge, while our Juniors and Cadets take three qualifier spots for the U.S. Junior Olympics in Memphis, TN. Elise confirmed her strong showing at the Y12 Epee one month earlier by placing 6th out of 23 fencers at the 2nd event of Socal Youth Challenge at the Beverly Hills Fencing Club. She won 5 of her 6 bouts in pools and won two more elimination bouts making it into the top 8. However, her teammate Brett was the surprise of the day, finishing in 3rd place in what was only her second competition. For Andrew, this was his debut, but he won bouts in pools, as well as in the elimination to take a respectable 16th place. In the Y14 age group, both Nick and Spencer made the top 8 out of 33 fencers. They both went 5-1 in pool play and 2-1 in the elimination bracket. Elise finished a surprising 9th in the higher age group and both Cameron and Samantha won their first elimination bout as well. Meanwhile in San Diego, Benjamin, Paul and Taylor qualified for the U.S. Junior Olympics to be held in Memphis (TN) in February. Taylor took the Cadet spot, as both his teammates automatically qualified for that event by virtue of taking two of the Division's three Junior Event spots earlier. The J.Os are the most prestigious events inside of the Unites States in those age groups. Congratulations to our Fencers! |
