The second Summer Series of tournaments concluded on Saturday 9/9, in a fantastic warmup for the next day's San Diego Cup Open.
Our Summer Series of tournaments is a set of 4 tournaments held through the summer designed to give new fencers the opportunity to participate in tournaments and experienced fencers a chance to put their latest moves to the test in a competitive atmosphere. And, as always, there was plenty of food for our hungry fencers!
This year saw slightly lower attendance, but maintained a healthy level of competition. We had fencers from several different clubs attend, as well as a couple of nationally ranked fencers. In addition, we had several fencers attend their first tournament. All competed, all practiced, and all had a great time.
Encinitas Fencing Academy maintained a consistent presence on the podium, and brought home a majority of the available awards. In the Men's category, Coach David "Lucky" Polakoski and Doug Taylor took first and second places overall, sharing the podium with Alex Soderberg of Team Touché who came in third. For the Women's, Allison Chan, Eowyn Acres, and Ilyssa Freiburger placed first, second, and third respectively. Lastly, Roark Harris took home the Red Lantern award placing fifth place in the Men's Category.
